New Zealand, Part 2

Lake Taupo

 January 2, 2018

New Zealand’s Lake Taupo is huge, 238 square miles, or 616 km2. Though it dwarfs New York’s finger lakes (the biggest is only 173 km2), and it was created by volcanic action instead of glaciers like the finger lakes, it strongly reminds me of them. It’s surrounded by steep shores, wooded right down to the water level. It’s full of people water skiing, boating, having a great time.

The boat tour we took goes to a Maori rock carving representing one of their ancestors. Very Cool. I hope to be able to do it justice in a painting.

And this,

On the shores of Lake Taupo, New Zealand: The coolest McDonald’s

with a sign on it, “The World’s Coolest McDonald’s.” Dude. Feel the vibe.
