Day 21, Arica, Chile

Day 21 February 4, Arica, Chile. Sunny, beautiful.

We found out that not all Chilean wines are good.

After a day at sea we landed in the port town of Arica, Chile. In the descriptions online, the standout feature of Arica is its church, designed by Gustav Eiffel. Yes, it is charming, as described, with characteristic touches of wrought iron, similar to those you see in his tower and all over Paris.

But for us what was much more charming on the day we visited was a grand festival, with raucous bands, terrific costumes, and parades.

We found a Paris store (one of a chain of home goods stores) that sold  wine. We bought six bottles and some snacks, total $42. That night we tried one . . . Maybe okay with pizza.
