DAY 78—Lüderitz, Namibia

Day 78 Sunday, April 2. Lüderitz, Namibia

The morning of April second, we docked at Lüderitz, Namibia.  I try to choose one significant sight or event to depict in a drawing or watercolor. Sometimes it’s hard to choose just one.

The forward observation lounge, overlooking the bow, is where early risers congregate for their first cup of coffee, passengers and officers alike, before the restaurants open. The self-service coffee machine there, a WMF 5000S, is a marvel. It delivers really delicious espresso-based coffees, regular or decaf espressos, cappuccinos, lattés, or Americanos.

Early this morning, instead of a line of caffeine-hungry cruisers, I found four of the maintenance engineers in their white overalls working on the WMF 5000S. So many of us coffee addicts have come to rely on this marvel, it has has become a critical piece of equipment.

After spending years as an IT professional, creating and supporting systems for designers, writers, and editors, I am now pursuing a dream: to be an artist. I have "drawing on the brain"--not only do I feel compelled to draw all the time, I enjoy thinking about art.

  1. Steve, great prints as always!

Any chance you could ask and see if I can get a job as the flashlight guy? I’m not sure I’m ready for the hands-in-pocket supervisor guy. Too much stress.
